Mississippi Hill Country Loop Northbound
$8.00 – $20.00
Description
The Mississippi Hill Country Loop is a two day ride with a Northbound route and a Southbound route. Each day’s ride is different and takes a day to complete that leg of the loop.
The Northbound day starts in Gluckstadt, MS, just north of Madison, MS, which is part of the Jackson metro area. The route is 244.81 miles and ends in Batesville, MS with several good motels and good restaurants available.
After you ride through the Gluckstadt/ Madison area, the route opens up with gravel and dirt based roads. Mississippi is very rural, with gravel roads everywhere, so just pay attention to your navigation and you will be okay.
Gas is not a problem with country convenience stores all along the route. Also, the state has a large population of deer and wildlife, so be careful of that.
At mile marker 127.82, the route might be hard to see depending on the time of year. It’s a Jeep road and might have deep ruts. There is an easy short bypass, if you need it, marked on Map #4.
Remember that you will be traveling through farmland of cotton, rice, corn, and soybeans. During the harvest, heavy farm equipment will be sharing the road, so be careful.
The route is fun and can be very dusty during the hot summer months and can also be very muddy if you are caught in a rain storm. A good lunch stop is at the junction when you cross highway US 82 just west of the town of Winona, MS. Have fun and enjoy…
